Quick question. Do exit signs HAVE to be on a dedicated circuit? NEC? NFPA 101? Any state this? Thanks Gunny.

See NEC Article 700-12 (e).

But, some cities require dedicated circuits in dedicated raceways (such as Chicago).

doesnt the code state that emergency light circuits has to be supplies by the lighting circuit in the same area. If the lighing circuit trips in this area, wouldnt you have to be able to see a suitable lighted exit sign?

John, you are partially correct, but there is more than one code compliant manner to do this. 700.12 is a tricky section...lots of information.
