Hi Guys,

The only place where an expansion fitting would be utilized is where the concrete itself has an expansion joint 300.7(b), but my question is, Do I have to be right at the expansion joint or I have a specific room where I have to install the expansion fitting? I mean can I installed it before or after the join any required distance from the join?

Thank you in advance.

I don't see an issue as long as there are no supporting straps between the concrete expansion joint and the expansion fitting.

Don, I'm not sure what you mean but I have to strap the conduit before expansion fitting and after(3'' RMC). Are there are any rules for supporting after and before expansion fitting? Thank you in advance.

The issue is that the conduit expansion fitting has to be able to move when the concrete expansion joint moves. So you don't want to have a rigid piece of conduit that is strapped to both sides of the concrete expansion joint. If the expansion fitting is over the expansion joint, then that's obviously not possible. When the expansion fitting is offset from the expansion joint, that is possible but should be avoided.

That's a picture of the support. I would like to know if that support is OK?

So that's a trapeze (if that's the term) on each side of the concrete expansion joint, and all of your conduit expansion joints are between those two trapezes? I would think that would be fine, and I would interpret Don's comment as saying the same.

Cheers, Wayne
