When running conduit for light fixtures in a t bar ceiling, is it necessary to install expansion fittings across expansion joints? These runs are going from fixture to fixture.

I've never seen it done, but then, I thing a rigid raceway is altogether wrong for suspended-ceiling fixtures anyway.

Added: I've seen EMT used; I mean I've never seen expansion joints used.

Sooner or later, the expansion joints in a buildings roof are going to move. If the conduit is firmly attached to the bar joists, it may pull aparrt -- especially if compression fittings are used.
Instead of using expansion couplings, you could use a short length of loose flex to bridge the gap.
