I’m running a 4-20ma cable to a sensor to a cooling tower. Is there a reason why they put explosion proof boxes when piercing through cooling tower? I was gonna used a regular stainless steel box. But I seen them and I was curious…

Are they explosion proof or water tight like IP66/IP67? That would be more appropriate for a cooling tower I would think.

Maybe that’s what they are. But I’ve never installed one of those. But they look similar to explosion proof. Thanks I’ll look into that.

We have installed these for borehole pumps for water authorities. I'm British so our designation for those would be IP67. Ingress Protection. I'm sorry I don't how it would be classed in USA. Probably someone in this forum would know.

Well, may be I shouldn’t said conduit body and not box. What I’m referring to is a hazardous location conduit body with a round screw cover on it.

It's not kit we would be familiar with. We just don't conduit very much.
