Hi folks,

i have a question about IEC and ATEX markings on equipment being used in a class 1 div 1 location. We have a couple of flow meters the mechanical contractor wants to install. This will be an intrinsically safe install. The meters have a Eex marking and not an Aex marking. Am I correct in saying based on NEC article 505 that these meters can not be used? I understand it also has temperature ratings that have to match up with the area. It seems to me because it doesn't have the Aex rating we do not have to look any deeper. Thank you.

You are correct, IEC, ATEX, CE marks, etc., are meaningless in US domestic applications - especially in Class I, Division 1. The meter might be OK in Division 2 in reality[Section 501.5]; but still would not meet the Article 505 marking requirements.

And welcome to the forums.
