I found a few posts discussing SE cable but I want to run my situation by the forum. I have a job that I've been asked to bid and the room next to the panel has been finished off. Someone, and I'm not sure if it was the GC or the EC ran two 1-1/2" PVC conduits at about chest high that run from electrical closet to open side of basement. As the ceiling is all finished in nice oak, the only option is trying to use these conduits. Due to having to derate branch circuits if bundled in the PVC, my thought is to run SE cable, using one of the PVs conduits and put a sub panel over in the open side of basement. The concern I have is this approach would mean running exposed SE back up the wall and then route it up in the floor joists. Can SE cable be run exposed (and essentially unprotected) up the wall for what would be 3' - 4'?

I thought is sleeping the SE but the PVC "chase" conduits are standing off the wall and it would be tough to pul the SE through as I'd have to add two 90 degree elbows to get back up the wall.

Thanks

First look at 338.10(B) making sure to read 10(B)(4). In general you can install the SE cable just like you would install NM cable. It appears that this is an exposed installation so 334.15 will apply to your installation.
