Extending bonding wire

Is it acceptable to extend a #6 solid bare copper wire with a crimp or some kind of permanent connector on a bonding between a house panel and water line/gas line?
If the conductor is a GEC then the splice needs to be irreversible. From what you've described it does sound like a GEC.

It has always seemed odd. Here in IN, gas and water lines MUST be bonded using one wire for both. Just across the Ohio river, KY, they are very careful to make sure gas lines are NOT bonded at all. For years, I’ve thought it strange that elections flow differently on the other side of this river. ? :)

You think it's bad there? We have 120 municipalities in the Kansas City Metro area, and they're not all the same 🙄🙄

At least you know what it's like on both sides of Kentuckiana 😜😜

It's impossible to keep up with how each AHJ wants gas bonding, smoke detectors, and what code cycle they're all on 😓😓😓
