Extension Ring vs Blank w/ko

Want to get your thoughts. Have a below grade parking structure, trying to figure out a detail on the lighting. We're running whips to the light fixtures from the deck box. No insulation on the deck. Is there a reason you'd run the whip into an extension ring rather than directly into a blank with ko?

I see no reason not to use a blank with the KO. The extension ring would make accessing the deck box easier and give you more cubic inches or room for the splices.
