Hi All

I know this question gets asked alot so I did a search and found that there is No NEC height requirment for exterior GFI's.

my question is that Im working in the Town of Oyster Bay in Long Island NY and was told that they write there own book and are tough guys in the code dept.

I called the local building dept and got no place.

So does anyone know if this town has a specific requirement.

Im installing a 2 gang box with sepeate phases for each GFI in a Sided dettached 1 family house.

thanks again

There is no issue with the NEC on your install but I would try and contact another ec in the area and see what they say. Local areas can have there own amendments.

210.52 (E)
"accessible while standing at grade level and located not more than 6 1/2 ft above grade shall be installed at the front and back of the dwelling."

So anywhere above grade and 6 1/2 ft and under.

Ehhhhhhh, can that be stated for all locations? What about garage bays, aren't they 48" minimum? "Anywhere",... exterior????

There's no height requirement inside of a garage. They can be down low or up high. You only need one of them to be 5'7'' or under to meet code. The rest of them can be wherever someone wants them to be.

welp called the bldg dept again with no success. I noticed the AC disconnects are 19" from the bottom to grade. measured all the neighbors boxes as well and they were all 18" so im going with 20" to be on the safe side. thanks all for your assistance
