I'm bidding on installing lighting that will illuminate a sign about 24' long and 6' high. I know the fixtures will have to extend at least 3' from the wall. What code section would cover this, for example, could I use heavy wall for my extension or would I have to purchase the unit as an assembly. Anyone know any websites that supply the units. I want to go with HID fixtures.

Ruud Lighting (www.ruudlighting.com) has sign lights. They also have an Application Engineering Dept (No charge to customers) that can provide you with photometrics and guidance.

Keep in mind that you are hanging a 'heavy' fixture 3' out....do you have any 'good' structure to anchor to?

A 16" sq fixture w/ a 2" slipfitter mount would work on 2" RGC but that's a lot of weight to 'hang'

Might want to double-check on any local "dark sky" or "light pollution" rules while you're at it. That can sorely affect the design of fixtures to illuminate signs.
