Have a question for resi guys/gals.

What is your cost difference between installing a 6" recessed housing and LED trim in a 9' interior ceiling and putting the same in a exterior soffit on a 2 story dwelling?

Working height at rough in approx 35' to highest opening, 8/12 pitch roof.

Thanks

I'd probably start with double what the 9' ceiling is. You would most likely have to set up a scaffold or rent a lift. It would be hard to do that from a ladder up that high. Whatever you use on the rough, you would have to use on trim-out as well.

$0.00, because I wouldn't do that. Dead serious. Working on a custom house right now and the customer requested that, I told them no.

#1 way to make a house look small. There are certain architectural styles that can get away with it, but rarely, and downlighting in a flat soffit overhang is not one of those styles.

Up lighting is the only way to go. Tall house? Use higher powered lighting.

Usually we can wire them from the the inside attic or top floor and use the siding/stucco guys scaffolding or pump jack

I would most likely get the wires in the soffits from inside/attic on the rough-in and wait until after it's painted to cut in and install all at once.

Double the price, at least.

Depending on how many you have, might be best to figure materials + 1 hour of labor each + lift tental
