Anyone design an external transformer fed from a UL508A panel. I don’t see anything in the standard saying not permissible but never seen it.

Would be a nice option for pump stations with duplex MSCP that have power loads like a convenience receptacle and generator block heater but no other 120V loads aside from control circuits which would be from a separate CPT within the panel. Looking to feed a load center or panel board external to pickup auxiliary 120V power ckts.

Thought please?

Why not?

Downside is if you need to remove power from the UL panel, you will not have 120V available otherwise, based on what you describe so have a portable generator ready if you need plug and cord tools

I have used Sq D Mini power zone for 480 pump stations for 120/240 loads, the Square D power zone has a 480 V disconnect, step down transformer, and small secondary panel. It requires a connection to a grounding electrode and primary power and you’re done.

I have hung 5kVA 3R transformers in the outside of duplex panels (to keep heat out of the panel) for station service loads, UL never had a problem with it. The UL 508A standard doesn’t specifically list transformers but the UL 1561 standard for transformers is listed as one of the accepted other standards within 508A.
