If you have exiting hung gyp board ceilings that are to remain and you have to install new lights and EMT is it even possible to install the EMT over and existing gyp board ceiling. I'm taking an area of about 50'x50'.
I'd think you need some sort of access doors but even then installing and supporting EMT seems impossible!!??

Why do you have to use emt. If that’s the case they have to cut open the ceiling for u so you can do your job y can’t you use mc

Because the spec says that only EMT can be used and RFI response confirmed that.

Do the specs prohibit surface installation of the raceway? Are the new lights surface mount?

No, all recessed. And yes no exposed raceways.

Ok then they'll have to cut holes for you to support the EMT.

Unless the supporting structure is built like the old ones that supported metal lathe and plaster ceilings, that you could walk on, they will have to open up the ceiling for your work. Just make sure you show that at "excluded work" when you submit your bid.
