Greetings & Salutations.

Firstly, for all you Power Quality gurus:
1) Is there a difference between an "Isolation Transformer" and an "Extreme Isolation Transformer? ..or is this just a marketing term?

2) Per 647.6(B) & 250.30 is an entirely separate grounding electrode required? ..or can a separate grounding electrode conductor, sized per 250.66, be run from the grounding electrode at the main service? ..the trans is located just below the main panel

Thanks.
Kevin

More electrostatic shielding, higher impedence from what I was told by an audiophile friend when I saw one in his cabinet, but I'm not convinced. It appeared to me to be a marketing ploy by a small company called Xentek that catered to audio purists, but it looks as though they folded, their website no longer works when I tried to find them just now.

As to the grounding, I don't have my code here so I can't comment.

You can run it back to the main service only if there is not a suitable in the area of the transformer. See 250.30(A)(4).
