Have addressable system. So SLC and IDC the same in this situation. How would one know which devices are on the SLC circuit. Aren't isolation modules required for the SLC devices?

C. System Wiring and Supervision shall be the following unless otherwise noted:
1. Provide Class A initiating device circuits (IDC).
2. Provide Class A notification appliance circuits (NAC).
3. Provide Class X signaling line circuit (SLC).

Yes, the SLC would require isolation modules, or devices that have built-in isolation. There is often some compromise as to the degree of "X-ness" people will accept. There might be an allowance of 15 or 20 devices between isolation modules. I know Siemens for one has released some intrinsically Class X devices so every device is Class X.

What are you working on? I would try to RFI away the "Type X" language. I see it in specs often but rarely see it end up installed that way. Many don't even know what they are specifying and just assume it is better.
