Say you have either a speaker/strobe or strobe mounted recessed in a wall and about 1-2' below drop ceiling? Is it code to have the 1-2' vertical portion in conduit? Thanks

Only if local codes require it, there is no NEC rule that does.

You may, if you wish, but as others have noted, not required. Check the specifications, drawings and any local regulations for this requirement. I can't imagine anyone prohibiting it, but one or more may require it.
