Looking at illuminating an alum. boat fab. shop 36'x36' with 14' ceiling using 8' H.O. flor. fixtures. The owner talked about using lasers to guide the cutting/fabricating of the metal and needing plenty of light. I'm thinking 5 rows of four 8 footers end to end. Any lumen experts out there? TIA.

IF you are planning to use 2-tube fixtures there, that should offer plenty of light. One thing to consider, however: Some jurisdictions will require some sort of protection on those bulbs. Cages, protect-o-sleeves, etc. We used shatter-shield bulbs to comply with this requirement.

The HO shatter-shield bulbs cost us about $12 each, so figure that into your estimate.

We also installed some Bodine B-50 units for emergency lighting on a recent project. They can eliminate the need for those dual-headlight units.

12 HO fixtures would give you around 100fc depending on the ceiling

Row origin 6'
#of rows 3
Row spacing 12'
Column origin 4.5 feet
# of columns 4
Column spacing 9'
