A contractor has cut the factory molded plug off of a lighting transformer, run the SJ cord down a stud cavity and wired it directly to switch to control accent lighting in a bedroom. I have indicated that this is a violation of the NEC and needs to be corrected. He says prove it. Can anyone help me with all the specific code references I can show him. This contractor has always been a bit difficult to work with and I would just like to prove my point with all the code sections that I can. Thank you.

Re: Factory molded plugs

You didn't say if the transformer had been UL listed or labeled. But if it was, you might cite 110.3(B).

The original thread said that it was a cord connected transformer how would that be temporary wiring?????????????/

Allen, the original thread also said the plug was cut off and the "SO" was wired directly in to a switch. This would make the "SO" pretty much permanent wouldn't you think? So with the uses allowed and not allowed the "SO" would be in violation in this instance.
