Fan Coil safety disconnect switches

What is the operational clearance for a motor disconnect switch on a fan coil unit mounted above a ceiling? Is it 3 ft.?

Its really one of those times where the code does not address this issue.

There is no way to mount a disconnect switch above a suspended ceiling and comply with all the rules in 110.26.

Code wise or in real life?

Code wise would be 3' or 3'6", but in reality 1' most of the time, 2' if you are lucky.
