Owner got a new fan and bought an older rotory fan speed controller Lutron, was sitting on hardware shelf’s.
instruction said ‘hock only to fan with solid state’. Called homedepot tech and gave them part and ask them what Lutron fan speed controls would work with there fan. They told me none you have to use Hampton bay controller, any others will void Warranty. So by Her words all other manufacture controllers void fan warranty. Sounds weird to me.

They might all say that.

Just like recessed lighting manufacturers say you must use thier trims with their cans

Ya I got little snippy, if Lutron the original and largest supplier of dimmers/ fan controls won’t work, plus anything other manufacture make then these are definitely crappy fan and company, I have called other brands and they have a list of compatible items.

Does the the rotary speed control have fixed speed positions (high, medium, low) or is it continuously variable? If it does not have fixed speed positions it will definitely cause all modern fans to hum. Try a a control that has fixed speed positions.

Most fan companies will tell you to use their controls since they have tested them to work. They are not going to spend the time and $$ to test every control available.
