So I got a ceiling box that says it’s rated for 50lbs fixture Support . So I got a fan that’s under 50lbs will that be legal to hang from that box ? Is 50lbs fixture the same as 50lbs fan ?

Nope 50 lb fixture weight does not mean the box is listed for a fan support.

UL requires boxes listed to support ceilings fans to be marked “Acceptable for fan support” if it is listed to support a fan of up to 35 lbs and marked “Acceptable for fan support of 70 lbs or less” if the box is listed to support ceilings fans weighting more than 35 lbs but less than 70lbs.

Fan rotates as a dynamic load. An under 50lb light fixture is a static load. You also have additional force of someone pulling on the chain.

Luminaire or fan can have force of pulling on chain, though IMO that force is a bigger issue with the pull chain switch itself then with the support method of the entire assembly.

Are you saying that the 70lb box can't be used for a 20lb fan? I don't read the UL that way.

I'm not trying to say that at all and if I came across that way I apologize.

I was trying to point out that UL Certifies fan boxes to either support fans that weigh up to 35 pounds or boxes that are suitable to support fans of more than 35 pounds up to 70 pounds.

UL Certifies metal fan boxes to Product Category Metallic Outlet Boxes, QCIT. You can see the Guide Information for this Product Category HERE

Within the Guide Information is states in part

A box, or a box with a bracket or bar hanger intended for support of a ceiling-suspended (paddle) fan weighing 35 lbs or less is marked "ACCEPTABLE FOR FAN SUPPORT" on the product. A box, or a box with a bracket or bar hanger intended for support of a ceiling-suspended (paddle) fan weighing more than 35 lbs but not more than 70 lbs is marked "ACCEPTABLE FOR FAN SUPPORT OF 70 LBS OR LESS" on the product. A box, or a box with a bracket or bar hanger intended for support of a ceiling-suspended (paddle) fan is acceptable for use with a fixture/luminaire when provided with the above fixture/luminaire-support markings.

Only if directly supporting the fan and it is not also listed for fan support.

Doesn't mean it wont handle it, just means it hasn't been evaluated for that purpose.

Also note that ceiling boxes that are on adjustable brackets have different weight ratings depending on if the joists are on 16" or 24" centers; the latter usually has half the load rating since the bracket is expanded and thus weaker.
