I found this cute little setup while demoing a building, multiple ceiling fans supported by EMT with a nail through the center of it into the rafter, the scary part is the EMT coupling near the box... NM was secured to the outside of the EMT to feed the fan box. truly amazing. I cannot believe these fans didn't wobble all over the place.

I am truly impressed! Though I suspect that simply hanging a fan-rated box on the end of that pipe would not have worked any better.

The EMT is literally supported by two nails... and these were decent size fans in a commercial building.

Was there a dropped ceiling in this area at some point? It looks like all this Rube Goldberg contraption could have been hidden from the view of those occupying the space below. Scary!

Whenever I see ceiling fans in a suspended ceiling that's the first thing to cross my mind. Hmmmmmm, how did the hang that fan

Yep, there was a drop ceiling, It was already removed though...
