Federal Pacific Equipment

I have the plans on a local bank which is upgrading HVAC. Some of the work involves an 800 amp Federal Pacific breaker. I have read many of the responses here and other places regarding the potential fire hazards with FPE. Does this go for the bigger commercial equipment such as I mentioned as well?

Involves the breaker how? Just turning it off?

Overall I wouldn't worry about it anymore than I would for any other equipment of a similar vintage.

FWIU, the commercial grade FPE was fine.

It was the residential stuff that was crap.

Large frame FPE was just a Westinghouse clone, if I'm not mistaken. I did some work in a 1985 office building that had all "FPE by Reliance Electric" gear and panels in it. That was the first and only time I have ever seen that. Thankfully Cutler Hammer was a direct replacement for the breakers we needed there.

I also have I also have seen some older 3 phase for fused switches been a long time about 2002 I think it had 125 amp fuses I can't remember for sure tho

And since the large breakers do not make StabLok connections to the bus, the panel itself should be fine too, IMHO.
