Attached is a photo of a FP panel. Can someone educate us about the screw in the middle of the panel with the notation:amps 70 max?

It was a vital part of the cover, as FPE breakers, due to the design of the off/on mechanism, will pull away from the buss when they're turned to the on position. The interior depth screw, when properly adjusted, theoretically held the breakers in place.

It would be wise to replace the panel ASAP

There are other panels with flush covers that have adjustable interiors to match the interior up with the cover, they are not always adjustable with cover installed like this one is. It is not an FPE only thing.
