Hi all,
I'm working on a home addition and have an exterior wall with a hottub and an HVAC heat pump about 30 feet from each other. I'm planning to put a small outdoor subpanel between the two with separate breakers to feed each plus room for future expansion.
Since the panel will about 15 feet away from each unit, I'm wondering if it's ok to run the branch lines from the breakers back into the house and then pop out into a blank covered box closer to each unit, then non-metallic flex down to each unit. Doing this keeps it clean outside without conduit running each direction down the house. However, there's something in the back of my brain that's not sure about this- on one hand if I see a such a box with flex coming out, I want to see a disconnect; On the other hand, running the wire back into the house should not really be different then if a conduit went into the ground and popped up right next to each unit.
I've looked over NEC 2011 section 680, but nothing comes up. So, thoughts? Is it ok? Ok, but bad form? Am I over thinking it?
thanks all,
