Is it permissible under the NEC to use the feed thru provision on GFCI recptacles to feed other devices(lights, etc) besides receptacles. I realize that no GFCI protection would be provided or needed for the non-receptacle devices, but it is merely for wiring convenience sake. We are begining to make UL listed outdoor electrical equipment that contains a feed thru GFCI receptacle on a 20 amp circuit and I want to be able to offer that feed thru option to end users if it is allowed. Thanks for your time.

A branch circuit downstream of the Load terminals of a GFCI receptacle is indistinguishable from the branch circuit that is downstream of a GFCI breaker in a panelboard.

One example of "required" GFCI protection of a non-receptacle load is an exhaust fan mounted over a residential shower or bathtub. The requirement is not in the NEC, rather it comes from the manufacturer's instructions and/or the UL requirements in the White Book.
