Ive got a question on feed thru lugs in a panel. Lets say you have a 200 amp panel with feed thru lugs on he bottom. Does this mean that the bus in the panel has a higher rating than 200 amps. The reason I ask this is because sometimes you will see lugs that were tapped into a buss andthen used as a feed thru. Would the buss be rated for this or not? Thanks

The buss is only rated 200 amps. The fed thru allows you to install another panel as a sub off the main lugs without having to add another CB. Remember if the service load is 200 amps you cannot add more than the panel will supply. 200 amp service means 200 amp load maximum.

but isnt the feed coming in from the poco only rated for so much. Because many times I have seen a 200 amp panel with dual lugs on the top side feeding another 200 amp panel:-?

Poco should have sized there lines for the service asked for. The feed thru is different than the double lug. I have not seen a double lug panel.

Was there a main breaker in this panel?
