Feeder cable

Does feeder cable for SER cable from a main disconnect need to be protected in a basement to a subpanel in the residential installation(200 amp service)?

There is too little information to answer your question. Are we talking about a residential basement? Has the SER cable been installed in compliance with the rules for NM?

Dog, I'm not sure of what you're asking, but if the SER cable is indeed being used as a feeder, it would have to be installed per article 338 which will basicaly instruct you to install it the same as NM or article 334.
