Re: Feeder under garage slab

A garage is a building so Table 300.5 says the minimum required depth is 0".

Scott,

Do you mean the underground service coming to the house? If so you'd better check with your utility. In a situation where a Garage was added on to a house on the side the service was on they wouldn't let it pass under the floor. We had to dig up and reroute around the Garage.

Bill here is the setup. Overhead service to 200 amp meter/disco on side of house. 2" pvc from meter under garage and into basement where panel will be located. I am with Don on this.Under building 0". Inspector not quite with it. He wanted 24" Anyway the pipe is in a 6" trench. He said don't backfill the trench let the pipe become encased in the concrete.

Re: Feeder under garage slab

It's after the main disconnect so it isn't a service it's a feeder. 300.5 says 0" of cover under a building. This means that you could strap it to the finished floor if it wasn't in the way, like in a crawl space.

There is no distinction made for buildings with vehicular traffic such as garages and warehouses so IMO your trench with backfill and concrete cover more than satisfies the code.
