Help!!! Ive got several jobs coming across my desk with feeders and branch circuits running in the same conduit. As and electrician I have never seen this done and in my opinion should not be done. Services dont allow it and feeders shouldnt allow it but I cant find anything in the code that says different.

More and more designs are coming across my desk with fedders running through wireways and the such with branch circuits with it.

Whats the deal on this issue? Where in the code does it say yes or no?

Re: Feeders and Branch Circuits

As you mentioned 230.7 prohibits service conductors being combined with other conductors. This is because a fault in these other conductors would effect the service conductors ahead of the overcurrent protection on the service. 300.3(C) Allows conductors of different systems to be combined based on 600V or less with the proper insulation rating. 690.4(B) prohibits prohibits solar photovoltaic circuits from being combined with other systems unless a divider is provided and there are limitation on the combining of Class-2 and Class-3 circuits with other conductors. From a design standpoint these options can be both good and bad. In my opinion the combination of a feeder with branch circuits in a conduit would be foolish from the stand point of conductor deration while the combination in a short wireway may not be a problem. Just my thoughts.
