I was curious why in patient care areas the branch circuit must have a redundant ground but the feeder to the panel that the branch circuits originate doesn't need one going back the source.
 
I was curious why in patient care areas the branch circuit must have a redundant ground but the feeder to the panel that the branch circuits originate doesn't need one going back the source.

The redundant ground is an added safety while using an appliance or electrical apparatus on a patient that is in a compromised condition.
