We just had a change in our energy code such that we go by the 2015 IECC OR ASHRAE 90.1 (2013).

It has been my understanding to this point (based on the older version) that we had the option of going with the IECC or the 90.1 with the caveat that we could not pick and choose something we liked from 90.1 and then another thing we preferred in the IECC.

I don't believe that's changed with the new version. But I'm having a difficult time finding that verbiage. Can anyone help.

Specifically, by the way, I'm trying to avoid the 90.1 requirement of having switched receptacles in computer labs and open offices. This is not a requirement of the IECC and it's not something I would choose to implement if I could avoid it.

Thanks,

Not from Mass., but it looks like Mass has adopted the latest IECC. This document basically says they will update their code within one year of its publication date.

In the 2015 IECC, look at C401.2. That basically says you either comply with certain parts of the IECC, or ASHRAE 90.1.

More info on your state's energy code here:

If you go with the controlled receptacles, Leviton has some duplexes that are marked "controlled", and some relays to control the receptacles. They even have wireless control of switched receptacles.

The closest language would be in IECC C401.2 Application: Commercial building shall comply with ONE of the following:

Thanks John - yes I am aware that we can go by either the older or the new version until, I believe, early January.

However, I don't believe anything has changed regarding the option of going by Ashrae 90.1 vs the IECC.
