I have a fair number of connections to make while installing a 3-phase solar PV system with battery storage, actually two identical systems at the same location. When looking at terminals for the connections, there is a large cost difference between some generic terminals and brands like Panduit or Burndy. There is no requirement for UL-listed terminals in the manufacturer provided installation instructions, so my view is that generic terminals and universal crimp tooling are acceptable. Thoughts?
Also, the terminals for stud connections are obviously required, but I am also considering using ferrules for 6AWG to 2AWG mechanical lug connections to match some other wiring assemblies that came with the equipment for use with mechanical lug/screw terminals in the equipment. Any thoughts on using ferrules vs just stripped wire for mechanical lug connections ranging from 6AWG to 2AWG and with THWN-2 conductors?
I would welcome any suggested sources for the terminals. I have been looking at some available from Zoro. I already have a Temco Hex crimp set that I plan to use with the lug terminals, and maybe with ferrules as well, but not sure if hex is suitable for ferrules. Most crimps I see with ferrules are either square or trapezoidal shape, thoughts?
Thanks!

One of those things where many parts and tools are compatible in practice, but you just don't know. I try to stay with a tool and crimp parts that are published as compatible. Usually more expensive and sometimes not possible. If you are doing a lot of them, I would use published compatible tools and crimp terminals.

Check out lugsdirect.com. Lots of low cost, high quality mechanical lugs.

I would not use ferrules. It adds cost but does not improve anything for wires if this size.
