It has been too long since I consulted the NEC. My son just called me from high school and asked me the following questions and I do not have the NEC handy:

1- What is the required distance between AC vents and smoke detectors?

2- How much clearance must you have in front of disconnects?

3- Which of these types of wire should have inhibitor at all terminations? a) 12/2 Romex b) 8/3 SEU c) 2/0 SER Aluminum

4 - What size of breaker are the following wire sized for?:
a) 2/0 SER Aluminum b) 4/0 SER Aluminum

5- what is the minimum spacing (in Ft) required between ground rods?

6 - Romex must be supported withing _______ inches of a box and every _____ feet in between.

BTW, since the online version is not that easy to navigate I will tell you that the answers will be found in the following articles.

Question #1, not in the NEC, #2 article 110, #3 not in the NEC, #4 articles 310 and 240, #5 article 250, and #6 article 334

I didn't know the NEC was actually online like that, so thanks for the link for it.

I bookmarked it so in case I want to look something up quickly, that I can refer to that, instead of dragging out the book.

AC Vents and Smoke Detectors

AC Vents and Smoke Detectors

See NFPA 72 - The National Fire Alarm Code
Article# 5.7.5.3 (page 39) This is kind of vague but if you are considering a single or multiple station or household system application, see Article# 11.8.3.5(6) (page 110) which states "Smoke alarms and smoke detectors shall not be installed within a 914-mm (36 in.) horizontal path from the supply registers of a forced air heating or cooling system and shall be installed outside of the diretct airflow from those registers."
#(7) deals with distance from paddle fans (36" from the tip of a blade).
