Do any of the box manufacturers make a fibeglass or plastic extension for a 4" square? Normally I stay away from extensions - but an existing box is one of those Allied (light tan) fiberglass boxes - and I just have to get one more 12/2 in to it - otherwise I'd have to route things differently, and I don't think some of the wires would be long enough.

Another option would be to put a metal extension ring on it - but I'm not sure if this is up to code. I'm thinking if I bonded it the extension to EGC, then I should be fine.

Anyone have a code reference that says otherwise?

Thanks,

Brett

All I found was a nonmetallic mud ring. That might get you what you need.

Bump - so if I can't find a plastic or fiberglass extension ring - can I use a metal 4" square extension, as long it's boned to the EGC?

Mdshunk - I didn't mention, but the box was over filled when I came upon it. I found the same thing as you, and it adds - I think 8.4 cu. in. This is shy a bit.

Thanks

Brett

Bump - so is there anything that stops me from adding a 4" Metal Extension Ring to an Allied 4" Square Nail-on to get the proper box fill? I can not find a plastic 4" extension anywhere.

I do realize that I have to bond the EGC to the Metal Extension Box - but is there anything that would not allow this installation?

Thanks,

Brett

I'd say it's fine to do. Use a G-clip to bond it to the EGC's.
