I failed on a fault locate last Friday. I got close?? with the TDR, but failed with my normal equipment. At least we know which end of the 1350' run it is on. The 2 faults are in pvc conduit, 300k to earth, and >22K to each other. After a couple hints from e57 on TDR use, we are having an education day tomorrow. Meaning the customer is getting three electricians for free while we learn. Does anyone else do this?

These actual field conditions do not happen often where the customer is not in dire need of immediate repair. I have only failed once or twice before on a locate and this one is driving me nuts.

work for free ? try not to. would rather charge the customer for the 3 guys and also get the training. (and charge them for that too if possible)

I try not to either. I don't see this much different than paying for a code class we take during the middle of the week. Difference being I am not paying someone else another $XXX.XX on top of the employees time.
