View is from crawlspace of NEW CONSTRUCTION looking up under the kitchen where the electric range is.

I scratched my head for a while on this one until I pulled the range out.

hey at least they put a connector on the wires instead of shoving them into the side of the box - that seems like and awful ineffecient way to hook a stove up:grin:

Maybe PA should consider statewide licensing for electricians. This is even below the handyman level.

I figure that not only was it a total waste of time to do it that way, but it looks like the black wire is waaaaaay too small to be one of the hot wires, and the small red wire should be green. Or are the red & white the hots, and the black & small red the neutral & ground?

I think that is a parallel hook up with the small black and red. 2 smalls make one big. :D No EGC

Had to drag 310.4 into it, huh? Can't really tell by the photo whether it's a 3- or 4-wire install. But if it's new construction per the OP, then there's several things wrong either way.

I.... I... I... I... just don't get it... how can someone do something so screwed up... It looks like it might be a 4 wire hookup with nothing eight about it... we won't talk EGC color or your Grounded Conductor... I'm betting that the Red/White (either 8's or 6's) are the Hots and the Black and Red (probably 12's?) are the Neutral and Ground.

EDIT- Mind working in overdrive says that maybe they fed the recep with the plug? It would also be a service disconnect issue if you wanted to push it so far.
