Roughly how would you price the following? 100 T12 8FT HO Fluorescents need to be retrofitted to T8 HO, they are mounted 20FT in the air on all-thread so a scissor lift is required. Minimal amount of stuff in the way the customer will move. Each fixture needs a new T8 ballasts and (2) new T8 HO Lamps. I have figured 1 hour per fixture plus material. Does that sound reasonable? Also what should I charge for hourly rate? My company hourly rate or go by the national estimator labor cost of $36.78 per man hour(2009 book) plus material, lift charge and profit? And do I adjust the hourly rate if it will be an apprentice instead of journeyman?

What if there is no ground wire in light? What if there is no hole for ground?

Who's paying for disposal?

No motion involved, No special nightlights with battery back up?

Do you have to cover smoke heads in ceiling, or turn off system?

My unit price book is even older

Your not going to redo the exit signs? .50
Two head Emer.? .80

8 x 2 = .70
8 x 2 = .65
(lamp wrap around)

Emer ballast = .40

We'll assume that an exact match for tumb stones to match exist pan end.

Storage trailer? Gas/ Charge cords, all other expenses required by this job not
covered in CO. OH!

Total freight expenses of install equipment.

Lift Rental charge(s), Weekly verses Dayrates, weekly +1 day?
Assume that the lift moves extended.

Material and associated down time /travel / dancing with client ?

~ Cost of non productive foreman, OSHA required ground man.

Good info thanks. Now what dollar figure would you use? The dollar amounts per man hour in national electrical estimator? Or your company hourly rate?

Did a shop 2 months ago with 40 of those T12 to T8 conversions.

took about 20 min per light.

pushed a ground through as we went.

Customer said they would move stuff out of our way.......but you know how that works out.

We had one journeyman one apprentice and one lift. For a total of 16 hrs each. And whatever the boss man charges for the lift.

We used the customers dumpster for disposal.

All in all it took 2 8hr days by the time we cleaned up and brought the lift back to the shop ( we own a few lifts )

They make a T12 to T8 conversion kit if you didn't know that already. It's plates and tombstones. It gives you 4 4ft lamps instead of 2 8 footers.

Our shop rate is $55 per hr for journeyman

$35 for an apprentice.

If the owner comes out he "works" for free.......He also has a 20 min job site limit:)

I have no idea what the lift cost are.
Add 30% to your rental fee to cover taxes later on.
