Finding in the NEC. EMT connections

So my brother in-law is buying a house and asked that I'd look with him. While looking in the garage, I find several electrical issues but the most concerning to me was the power coming into the garage came through the EMT but instead of a LR-typw fitting they just stopped the EMT short jd fed the THHN wire into the disconnect. Also they used the green ground wire as the second leg to the 240v disconnect instead of an actual ground. I found the code for the ground being wrong. But where is the code for having a fitting on the emt connecting to the disconnect?? And not just flying THHN wire?

There is no need to get excited about exposed single conductor wire?

Not really. It can be readily fixed. It's not like it is a serious structural issue that maybe can't be economically fixed at all.

It is a serious safety issue that would have me very concerned about the parts of the electrical system that are not visible.

But if I saw that, I’d be looking really hard at everything else.
