I'm in the process of writting a letter for the GC in my area for new work. I'm thinking about of offering 1-2% money back after the job is complete. Have anybody tried anything like this? Does anybody have any letter that I could look at? We are also thinking about offering a Lutron Homework System at a discount. This letter would be for new GC with sizable work. No remodels or add on. Also have you ever used one of those permit listing services that tell you whos pull new construction permits?

Re: finding new GC

you will probibly be contacted by the type of gc's you don't want and can't afford--those who scam people and don't pay their bills............

Re: finding new GC

If I were a GC, and if someone whose qualifications and capabilities I did not know mailed me a generic form letter that offered a kickback for sending work his way, I would not take kindly to the invitation. I am sure you did not intend the letter to sound like a kickback offer, but you need to be sensitive to the way it is going to be read by you intended audience.

Re: finding new GC

It is unfortunate when contractors feel they need to excessively discount work in order to get and maintain work.

Instead, offer better services, better quality, or better guarantees to justify your rates and estimates.

Re: finding new GC

I'm not trying to lower my rate. I'm trying to push more Lutron Homeworks systems. I don't think I said that in my first post. These systems are on the high end. I don't think paying %2 on $40,000 is bad = $800 to find a new GC. No I'm not looking for some scam GC that doesn't pay there bill. Before we ever start a new GC will do plenty of research on that company first, and if they don't look good we bid it very high.

Re: finding new GC

nick,
the gc doesn't know and probibly care what lutron even manufacturers! the engineer/architect specs a system like lutron. don't ever think that because you are an expert in a particular system that it will get you the job. actually, your price will probibly be high since you know what it takes to install. what gravity stated is some real good advice------
