Does anyone know of a way to find the new house wiring jobs before there
givin out to other EC's,,,I've tried subscribing to job reports but for some reason there always too late for me to get in the bidding....and for some reason residential projects are not properly researched in the job reports
and for someone like me relying on info from them,,, there always too late...

its like you gotta know someone just to find these jobs...

99.9% of the time, a builder will already have a good working relationship with at least one EC. He may put his jobs out for bids, but will usually pick his old 'standby' electrician anyway. Reasons he changes ECs: His existing one really screws something up..... they get greedy thinking they've got a customer for life and start creeping their price up..... they just stop showing up........

Just keep putting your name out there and some day you'll get a call.

It's not "like" that, it is that. If you want to make money, you need to have relationships with the customers (try to keep the job from getting out). If you want to bid against every EC around, look for jobs that are public.

Doing the work is the easy part, getting the (profitable) work is a bit more challenging.

Get in your truck and introduce yourself to GC's that are doing the type of projects you want to be doing. Call them Tuesday mornings around 10 to see if they have anything they want you to look at. Do the same thing on a weekly basis.

Go to the nearest Home Depot. Stand at the commercial exit. Hand out business cards to those who are pushing loaded carts of clearly contractor type materials out the door. Do this for 3 days straight. Spend months/years sorting thru the mess you have just created for yourself, until you find the gold in the bottom of your pan.

Sounds like you know about these things.

I sent out introduction letters to all the home builders and only got two responses. Both of them were checking their current electrician pricing. We never got any work. Today it is who you know. I think it is a hard thing to break into but don't give up, and think outside the box.

Get your General Contractors license, then sub out everything except the electrical. That way the general can wonder if you will use him on the next job.
