Are there any fire alarm cable supporting requirements that mention support distances above a hung ceiling? The only thing I can find is that it has to be installed in a neat and workmanlike manner, but I don't see anything specifically about supporting cables let's say every, 4', 6', etc. Also can the fire alarm cable be run alongside (cable tied to) MC cable above a hung ceiling?

Where are you specifically? We were just talking about this in the other thread with regard to NYC.

Otherwise you may have local rules to follow, but as far as the NEC is concerned, you cannot attach low voltage cable to MC cable. It must be supported independently.

Which does not mean that it cannot be independently attached to the same supports. But the weight cannot be applied to the MC cable itself.
And, IMHO, you would have to be able to remove the MC without interrupting the low voltage circuit.

This particular project follow the 2008 NEC (NYS project). Looking at NEC section 760.24 mechanical execution of work.

New York State just upgraded its code cycle. If the job is permitted after October 3, 2016 you'll be on the 2014 edition. Between March 9, 2016 and October 3, 2016 projects can pick their code cycle but must state which one otherwise the default is the new cycle.
