The circuit boards in this photo were apparently added to correct a nuisance alarm problem with a fire sprinkler system. Has anyone seen this before and is such a repair legitimate?

Thank you

Do you have a make and model on these critters? They look like they might be ferrite core noise suppressors. I have never seen these before myself, but if they are listed for fire alarm use they would be legit. If this is an addressable system, they may also have to be listed with the panel.

I worked on a system similar to these boards, It was a gamewell system and I was installing a simplex system in its place. The boards we took out in the demo were gamewells isolation modules that looked like these. I put in simplex's Iam modules in place of these. They are relay modules that give a device an address in a addressable fire system.

So the DIP switch we see in the photo is how you set the device address?

Depending on the brand fire alarm panel they do look like monitor modules. If you do a search on Google Images for Silent Knight SD500MIM you will see some modules that look similar. They may have had a plastic case that was removed so they would fit better in that box.
