Galvanized Pipes going into trench in NYC that will be used to feed Fire Alarm equipment. Do the pipes have to be encased in concrete?

And if so, where would I find that information in the code?

NYC has it own NEC code, its not a stretch to figure that they have modified all their building code which
would include the fire alarm code. You are going to have to seek the information out with city officials or
with a F/A specialist.

I might be well wrong but I can't recall a NYC - F/A person whom are a patron here.

Good luck.

I don't know about FAs, but I know where to find the NYC version of the NEC and building codes.

I previously posted this information here http://forums.mikeholt.com/showthread.php?t=155578&p=1505359&highlight=#post1505359
NYC uses the 2008 NEC with some changes as detailed here:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/codes_and_reference_materials/nec.shtml
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/downloads/bldgs_code/electrical_code_local_law_39of2011.pdf

This combination is, somewhat confusingly, referred to as the "New York City 2011 Electrical Code", even though it's using the 2008 version of the NEC.

The document linked to above states:

"?27-3024 Adoption of the electrical code technical standards.a. The city of New York hereby adopts the 2008 edition of the National Fire Protection Association
NFPA 70 National Electrical Code as the minimum requirements..."

On that same page, you can find the building code:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/codes_and_reference_materials/construction_code.shtml

Hope this helps
