Fire alarm design and responsibility

Can electrical P.E. design and seal a fire alarm system drawings or has to be licensed fire protection engineer?
 
Depends what state your working in.
Yes this will vary widely. In central NY my county let's the local fire alarm guy go at it. it does not require inspection, and I don't think any of the officials know any requirements anyway. In a place like Seattle where I also work, it would need plan review. In some areas the fire marshal has a big say in it.

At the time I received my P.E. in NJ, there was no fire protection option on the exam. In any event, NJ does not issue discipline specific licenses for P.E.'s. You have to observe the requirement not to "practice outside your area of expertise".

IIRC, Vermont is absolutely crazy about specific disciplines. If you want to cross-qualify, you have to start the 4 or 5 year qualification period all over again for each additional discipline and no overlaps.
