A local fire marshall has advised me that I must be certified in fire alarm testing. This is the 1st I am hearing of this. I checked with a knowledgable fire alarm installer / dealer and he says the same thing, " what certification " If this is true shouldn't all ADT and Simplex employees be " certified " ? Please advise.

This would be up to the area you work in.

As far as Simplex all the Simplex Techs I work with are certified.

Fire Alarms are life safety systems, don't you think some sort of qualifications / certification is a good idea?

Re: Fire Alarm Recertification

I'm not asking if its a good idea, Which it is , But is it required and WHO certifies you. And What are your certifications??

As I said that is up to each local area, as to if it is required and who certifies you.

It seems the local Fire Marshall has already told you it is required.

As for what it takes to be certified you will have to find that out from the AHJ in your area.

In this area my electrical license qualifies me to install fire alarm systems.

I am not certified to perform fire alarm system certification testing.

If we install a fire alarm system that requires certification testing we sub it out. :p
