When are horn strobes required to be in a building? The building is a detached building that will have sprinklers so there is no heats or smokes in the building. The building will be housing some equipment in an industrial facility with an office for 1 person that will be in there from time to time.

Check the 2020 Minnesota Building Code:

You can look in chapter 3 for the occupancies and then go to chapter 9 in 903 for sprinkler and 907 for fire alarm, including notification requirements.

The IBC gives you the places where they are required. NFPA 72 gives you how to install them

Don’t know about your state but around here the local fire department has to sign off, so it’s basically whatever they want, code or code +

How does that work? I did a quick check, and all the states that comprise New England (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine) have state-wide uniform building and fire codes.

There is a uniform fire code. But the fire department usually does a walkthrough of the building and then signs off. Even if you install your fire alarm system to the approved drawing, they can ask you change things. In the past we have called them in during the rough to go over the drawings before we started pulling wire.

Is there some local ordinance or state-wide statute that grants them this oversight? I'd be asking for a copy of said legal document.

Good question I have no idea. A few years back there was a fire and a lot of people died. Since then the state ramped up their fire codes. All out fire alarm wire is MC, we can only use steel connectors, no wire nuts. Stuff like that
