Sooo the argumement is that our Gamewell Master Pull Station (that cute red box with red light on it) must have a ground rod driven right under it to ground it to. The pull station is on the front of the building like most are and currently grounded (bonded) to the existing building ground. The Gamewell product cutsheet simply states that the pull station be grounded, it doesn't say it has to have a separate ground rod installed. Can't seem to find anything in writing that would FORCE an install of a separate ground rod there.

Any ideas on the requirements for grounding a Master Pull Station?

Oh, and no "general practice" or "tribal knowledge" stuff... this requiremnet would have to be in writing (if there is one).

Thanks guys & gals!

I assume this is a old style telegraph style master box?

If so it has nothing to do with the NEC, it has to do with the master boxes ability to transmit a signal with one of the municipal loop conductors broken, of course it would work through the buildings system.

You must install the rod per local FD usually

Yes, old school and yes it would use the building ground in case a conductor was opened. The FD doesn't really care one way or the other and is not going to put it on the line by acting as AHJ and requiring the ground rod.
