I have a fire alarm system it's in a 8 bedroom assisted living (CBRB). In the past we have always used romex to feed the panel. Friday I was told that the system is required to be fed by something other than romex, MC, BX, EMT, etc. I can not find anything in the code that backs this up.

The system I ran, has 24v devices all ran in red fire wire (as we call it).

Would this be a PLFA?

What requires it to be run in MC,BX, emt....?

Where does it require the lv wire to be RED?

P.S. I checked my state code and it doesn't have any alterations to article 760

Re: fire alarm system

Do you have a copy of the National Fire Alarm Code NFPA 72? Does your AHJ use it?
I don't have a copy, I've never needed it before. As far as the AHJ in this case, atleast for the fire alarm system, it is the engineer who designed and certified the system. All he told me is it's required by the NEC somewhere towards the back, and that I'm the electician I should know where it is.

Re: fire alarm system

Have run into that red wire in a multifamily.Something about it is special but in this case it didn't seem to help(it was melted).Do know we can't just replace with anything.
Here goes my bad attitude,if he says i can't do something then he must cite the code or should not be an inspector
