Can any one tell me the correct sequence for an ansul system shut down?
RE:Fire alarm trip,Hood shut down,Make up air shut down,Outlets below the hood for gas appliances? ect.....

As far as I know there isn't a "sequence" per say; it kind of happens all at once if I'm understanding your question correctly. The Ansul system is a "manual" type alarm where someone pulls a cable release station and dumps the agent onto a grease fire for example. The Ansul tank should have (4) sets of contacts on the discharge head. One set of contacts will trigger the fire alarm, another set will shut down the exhaust fan, another set will shut down the gas solenoid and the last set (I believe) will turn on the make up air fan. But I would check with your local fire dept to make sure about the make up air fan. Every jurisdiction has a different interpretation about how this is supposed to operate.

If you have more fans or devices to control you'll have to build a relay array to accomplish what needs to be done. Again, check with your jurisdiction as to what types of fire alarm related equipment is permitted in your area. You may not be able to merely pick up a few relays at the supply house and install them if they are not approved for fire alarm use in your area.

I've never seen an ANSUL system with provisions for a shut down sequence in the field. A sequential shutdown is possible through a FACP to control solenoids and relays, but why delay life/safety for the sake of equipment.. ?

Paul,

One of the simpler ways to shut off all required items,is to use shunt trip

c.b.'s on those circuits. If those circuits all come from one panel, all you

need is two wires from Ansul dry contact to shunt c.b.'s in panel.

Also, all the items that are required to shut down are also required to be

manually reset, agian the shunt c.b.(s) meet this requirement.

If a self made relay system is reenergized when the Ansul system is reset

all the equipment starts up (deep fat fryer) which may lead to another fire!

Like others have said, check with local official to be safe.
